A look inside · Edition 1
Your store starts with one clear idea
Week 1 · Choose your store concept
You don't need a perfect storefront to take your first step. Start by getting clear about the people you want to serve and what they'll come to you to find.
A thrift store, consignment shop, antique mall, and vendor market may all sell secondhand or independent goods, but their daily work can look very different. Will you buy inventory yourself, sell items on behalf of consignors, rent spaces to vendors, or combine these approaches?
Your checklist this week
• Describe your ideal shopper in one sentence.
• List three product categories you want to be known for.
• Choose how products will enter your store and who owns them.
• Visit three comparable stores. Notice the selection, layout, and unanswered customer needs.
• Talk to five potential shoppers about what they buy and where they shop now.
Put it into practice
Complete this sentence: “My store helps _____ find _____ through a _____ shopping experience.” Keep it specific enough to guide what you stock and what you leave out.
