Scanner Setup

Make barcode scanning fast and reliable

Solentx supports barcode scanning, but also works with manual entry. The goal is simple: scan → item adds → move to the next customer quickly.

USB-friendly Enter after scan Fast checkout

Best setup

Your scanner should send Enter after each scan for the fastest checkout flow.

Most common issue

If scans go nowhere, it is usually because the barcode input is not focused.

Recommended scanner behavior

Set the scanner to send Enter after each scan. That gives you the cleanest scan → add → next item workflow without extra clicking.

Setup steps

Get scanning working the right way

These are the fastest checks to get barcode scanning working reliably in Solentx.

1
Use a USB scanner
Keyboard-style scanners work best
  • USB scanners usually work instantly
  • Bluetooth scanners should use keyboard mode
  • Manual entry still works if needed
If it types into Notepad, it should work in Solentx too.
2
Enable Enter after scan
This is the biggest speed improvement
  • Turn on Enter suffix
  • Look for CR, LF, CR/LF, or Send Key settings
  • Save the scanner configuration
This helps Solentx auto-add the item without extra steps.
3
Keep the input focused
Most scanning issues happen here
  • Click the barcode input once before scanning
  • Close dialogs or popups that may steal focus
  • Make sure the cursor stays active in the right field
If normal typing works in the field, the scanner usually will too.
4
Troubleshoot quickly
Use a few simple checks first
  • Try another USB port
  • Test the scanner in Notepad
  • Reset scanner configuration if needed
  • Check keyboard layout or language settings
A Notepad test is often the fastest way to rule out hardware issues.
